2 Billion & Counting

On the 28th of September, 2009 Apple's App Store celebrated its two billionth app going through the check out. With an astonishing amount of third party apps available (closing in on 90,000) and a new market (China) opening its doors to the iPhone, expect the app stores progression to double soon.

The app number count comes exactly thirteen months after Android announced its marketplace plans, google fans announced the battle was on and that Android would become Apple's main competitor. Just over a year later with a very limited marketplace available - it is safe to say that the Android team have their work cut out for them to catch up. Likewise the Palm App Catalog seems to be going through its growing-pains stage still, re-vamping and re-tooling to meet users needs, the Catalog will have to quickly deliver some stunning signature apps to even compete.

"There is an app for that" is quickly moving from popular tag line to a reality. From utility to fun, the ever-popular 'free' price tag (22% of market place) to the infamous "I Am Rich" app ($999.99 - since removed) and sleek James Bond style surveillance monitoring systems ($900 range). With the possibilities being endless, the question is becoming not what can I offer, but what can I offer that is BETTER.

With the iPhone and iPod Touch community passing the fifty million unit sold mark, analytics packages for the medium being so accurate - with tangible and usable information returns, a great community embracing not only the technology, but the culture of iPhone and the ability to distribute your product not only to one market, but the world at a fraction of one television spot - App creation seems the best way to get your client base from Apple's App Store to your store.
